Obituary

About Mr Olabisi Oluwole's Life

“All the world is a stage;

And all the men and women merely players;

They have their exits and their entrances;

And one man in his time plays many parts;

His acts being seven ages.”

Uncle Olabisi Oluwole Olubodun was born on the 18th of August, 1928. He was the second of six siblings, children of the popular and respected family of Late Pa Olubodun and Late Mama Ruth Oladunni Olubodun in Ondo City, in Ondo State.

I was too young when Uncle Bisi left Ondo for Lagos, but fate facilitated our meeting in 1961. It was for me, a wonder that he recognized me and kept calling my name repeatedly; “Degbola! Degbola!! Degbola!!!”, it was a great moment of re-union, and there was jubilation all around.

From then on, I was like a son to Uncle Bisi, not a nephew; he did everything possible to ensure my happiness and my progress in life. He was working for Messrs. A. J ALLEN, a famous car sales outfit at that time. He was cordial and extraordinarily accommodating, and was always willing to discuss and share his views on life with me. In the course of 1961, however, Uncle Bisi left Nigeria for England, and he lived there till his divine home-call, only visiting Nigeria once in a while.

From 1972 to 2023, my wife and I travelled to the UK several times, and on each occasion, we visited him regularly in his London home. He was always overjoyed to see us.

Uncle Bisi came to the world, saw the world and played all the roles he could; he was kind, godly, humble, tolerant to a fault, but highly principled. He played a very active role in the Anglican Church communion, both in Nigeria and London, and was one of the Cross Bearers in his Parish church in London for a very long time.

He will be greatly missed, especially by my children who were always glad and proud to call him “GRANDPA”, because of the way he bonded with them instantly and very easily when they first met.

He was a true and devoted family man, ever ready to sacrifice for the good and happiness of others.

MAY HIS SOUL REST IN PERFECT PEACE, AMEN.
