We're Available 24/7Sale Cemetery, formally known as Sale and Brooklands Cemetery, is a Grade II listed Victorian burial ground that opened on 13 September 1862. It features a pair of Grade II listed Gothic Revival mortuary chapels designed by William Wilson in 1861, which are among the most architecturally significant cemetery buildings in Greater Manchester. The cemetery was extended around 1895 southward across Marsland Road, linked by an underpass beneath Marsland Bridge. New lawn graves and half-graves for cremated remains are still available. Notable burials include physicist James Prescott Joule and scientific instrument maker John Benjamin Dancer. Services are held at Hale Cemetery chapel or Altrincham Crematorium.
Grave leases are provided from 50 years, with extensions usually available from the cemetery.
Anyone can be buried at Sale Cemetery, but grave prices depend on residency. Lower resident rates typically apply to families living in Trafford, with higher fees for non-residents. Residency rules are complex so please check with your funeral arranger.
