Westhoughton Cemetery opened in 1858 on Cemetery Street in the market town of Westhoughton, on the south-western edge of the Bolton borough. It holds particular historical significance as the resting place of a number of victims of the Pretoria Pit Disaster of 21 December 1910, one of the worst mining disasters in British history, in which 344 men and boys were killed.
