In Loving Memory of John Hannington

It is with heavy hearts and deep love that we remember the life of John Hannington, a man whose presence was bold, generous, and truly unforgettable.
Born in White City, West London, to Ellen and Thomas Hannington, John was one of five siblings — Boise, Eileen, Linda, and Carol — Mischievous and full of life in his youth, he grew into a man known for his loyalty, wit, and unwavering sense of community.
John found both love and purpose in Hanwell, where he met his beloved wife, Sarah. Together, they built a life rooted in partnership, strength, and enduring devotion. John was a proud and loving father to Tom, Laura, Hayley, Charlie, and George, and a doting grandfather to his cherished granddaughter, Grace.
A man of service, John spent his career protecting and supporting others — first as a firefighter, then as a London black cab driver. He gave back in every way he could, including running the London Marathon to raise money for leukaemia research — just one of many examples of his selfless spirit.
John was a passionate sports fan who lived for football, rugby, cricket, and golf. He followed England with unwavering hope, always dreaming of seeing them lift the World Cup. His love for music was equally passionate, shaped by bold tastes and a deep appreciation for his cultural roots.
But perhaps nothing captured John’s heart quite like his family and dogs. Over the years, his home was filled with the love and loyalty of many canine companions — Gunner, Princess, Ebony, Bobby, Jack, Milo, and Ruby. His bond with each was unique and deeply felt. Even after swearing “no more dogs” twice, fate — and a little persuasion — always found a way to bring new four-legged friends into his life. Naming Bobby and Jack after the Charlton brothers was a testament to both his love of football and his sense of humour and sentimentality.
John’s life was rich with purpose, full of laughter, and shaped by kindness, pride, and resilience. He lived with a rare sincerity — devoted to his loved ones, his work, and the values that defined him.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and unforgettable memories. To know him was to love him, and he will be missed deeply by all who had the honour of sharing in his life.

It is with a sad heart I learnt of John’s passing recently. I knew John for a short time when we served together at Ealing. Mine and Lyn’s thoughts are with Sarah and the family at this sad time.

So sorry for your loss. John was a great man and great dad and grandad. Although we didn’t cross paths much I still have a few memories of John and my dad playing cards in my kitchen and pga golf on PlayStation I know he’s up there with his best mate Pete playing these games again. John was my dads best mate when we grew up we was all like family from trips away to family meet ups we was always together. John was an important person in our lives and will be sadly misssed.
