Maureen Whelan (née Brogan, formerly known as Mary Anne) passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family during the early hours of Friday 17th October 2025. Predeceased by her parents James and Mary Brogan (née McMahon), siblings Tommy, Cyril, Patricia, Josie, Helen and Flan, nephew Terry. She will be sorely missed by her granddaughter Shannon and granddaughter-in-law Ciara, son Paul, siblings Martin, Kathy, Michael, James, Margaret, Phyllis and Dolores, nieces and nephews - especially Pauline and godson Karol - extended family, many dear friends, neighbours and Maria, whose care and companionship meant so much during Maureen’s later years living in Camden.
Born in DerryGuiha, Kilmurry Mc Mahon, Kilrush, Co. Clare in 1940, Maureen was the eldest of fourteen siblings. At just sixteen, she moved to Co. Waterford with her sister Kathy to pursue a career in nursing. In 1960, they both set off for London, where Maureen built a life filled with hard work, kindness, generosity and plenty of laughter. She worked as a waitress for many years in Plaistow before moving to Kentish Town becoming a highly respected and much sought-after cleaner - a testament to her strong work ethic and pride in everything she did.
.
It was Maureen’s wish for family flowers only, and for her beloved granddaughter Shannon to choose a charity for donations in her memory. We have chosen The National Brain Appeal (formerly known as The National Hospital Development Foundation), a charity dedicated to supporting The National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery (NHNN) and the UCL Queen Square Institute of Neurology - together known as Queen Square - where Maureen spent her final week in the care of their wonderful staff, whose compassion, dedication, and kindness meant so much to our family.
We will be forever grateful for the outstanding care she received here.
.
Maureen will be remembered for her warmth, humour and generous spirit. She had an incredible strength of character and a deep love for her family. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who loved her.
The family invites all who knew Maureen to share their memories, stories and messages of condolence on this page, so that her spirit and the love she gave may continue to live on through your words.

In Loving Memory of Maureen From the earliest days of my life, Maureen was there — not just as a friend, but as a true part of our family. Her warmth, laughter, and kindness filled our lives with joy and comfort. We shared so many laughs, countless cups of tea, and memories that I will cherish forever. Maureen had a way of making everyone feel special, and her presence brought light into every room. Now, as she joins my mammy and daddy in heaven, I find peace in knowing they are together again, watching over us with love. Thank you, Maureen, for the beautiful memories, the unconditional love, and the laughter that will echo in our hearts always. Rest in peace, dear Maureen. You will never be forgotten. With love always, Pauline xx
Maureen was the kindest and caring person you could meet. We had the honour of Maureen being in our family and having many happy memories. Over the years Maureen has helped and cared for many. I had fun times going to the seaside with her, being there when I needed support going to the vet, she loved cats as we did. We had many happy Xmas days. Maureen you will be missed but now you are at rest and in no more pain. Rest in eternal peace. Love Always Margaret and Michael O’Brien (nee Murphy). Xxxx

As a child, I have such fond memories of Aunty Maureen’s holidays to Erribul, along with our lovely Aunty Kathleen. There was always so much laughter, fun and love. Aunty Maureen always gave such a warm and hearty welcome. You’d always leave her company with a pep in your step and a smile on your face. I really enjoyed my visits to Aunty Maureen, especially while I was in college in London. She was a home away from home. Home is where the heart is — and whenever you were with Maureen, you were at home. I was always greeted with a big hug and a warm smile followed by tea, laughter and great chats. I especially loved our “Rels on Tour” visits. We didn’t need to see the tourist attractions to have a great time — meeting Aunty Maureen was enough. Aunty Maureen found joy in the simple things in life and appreciated even the smallest gestures. I loved writing letters to her, knowing she would always take a genuine interest in what I had to say. No airs or graces — that down-to-earth kindness was such a lovely trait of hers, and of all her siblings too. “Ní bheidh a leithéid arís ann.” Rest in peace, Aunty Maureen — thank you for all the love and kindness you shared. Your warmth and love will stay with us always. ❤️
If you took all the words of kindness and put them together, that would describe Mammy, when we first met, she had the biggest smile, gave me the unexpectedly the strongest hug and thats how i knew her to be kind and strong, always smiling, always asking after me, real genuine care that i felt Always will be remembered with a smile
Sincerest condolences to Shannon, Ciara and Paul on your loss. Maureen always had us all in her thoughts and we have great memories from our trips to London. She will be missed but not forgotten. May she rest in peace.
Send beautiful flowers in memory of Maureen.
