In Loving Memory
- Cameron Family
Delroy Fitzmorris Cameron, the eldest of six siblings, was born in 1945 in St. Mary’s, Jamaica, and came to London at the age of ten.
As a teenager, he briefly joined the Air Force cadets, but quickly realised it wasn’t for him. What he did know, even at sixteen, was that he wanted to serve. So in the 1960s he enlisted in the British Army. He trained first in the Middlesex Regiment, and when that battalion broke up, he moved into the Queen’s Regiment. Over seventeen years of service, he rose to the rank of Corporal Cameron. He was proud of that; quietly proud, the way he was with most things. He played both the bugle and the flute during his time in service, adding music to the discipline of military life.
Outside the uniform, Delroy built a life defined by devotion. He had two wives over the course of his life and with each he raised three children, creating a family rooted in love, resilience, and unity. He was blessed to have his six grandchildren come into the world; they were his joy, his legacy, and his softest place.
He was a lifelong Leeds United supporter; loud on match days and absolutely committed. The first time he ever saw them play in person was with his son, a moment they both treasured. And this past September, he had the chance to see them again; another memory he held close and another dream he was grateful to experience.
Delroy lived with strength, fought through every illness put in front of him, and never stopped showing love in his own grounded way. His presence filled every room he entered, and it continues to fill the lives of the family he leaves behind.
A soldier. A husband. A father. A grandfather.
A fighter.
A man with a good heart.
A man who is deeply loved and will always be remembered.
