Pauline and Morris wish to extend deep gratitude to all those who have sent kind messages of condolence. They would particularly like to thank all those friends, neighbours and NHS workers who made his illness more bearable. They would particularly like to acknowledge the extraordinary palliative care given by the people at St. Christopher’s Hospice. They ask that those who would usually mark Andrew’s death with flowers make donations to St. Christopher’s instead.

Andrew was born in Madras (Chennai) South India the only son of Karl and Esther Nagel. He went to school in Newton Abbot where the family first lived when moving to the UK and then at King Edward 6th School, Aston, Birmingham. He eventually settled in South London where he lived the remainder of his life. He had a great love of music, reading and making things grow. Fiercely independent, he bore his illnesses with great resilience.

My memories of Andy was his love of music. He was always listening to new stuff. He also loved the time when he worked behind the bar at the Wickham Arms and the Duke of Edinburgh.I enjoyed our trips around London. He will be missed by me and his friends in Brockley.

I remember Andrew well from many Christmases in Devon and he was good company.Also that I had a pleasant surprise some years ago in London when Andrew noticed me by coincidence in a pub and came over to have a chat.

My early memories of Andrew as a child growing up , were of an older enigmatic character. Always affable, intelligent and with a sense of mystery. Very much an individual with strong ideals. Rest in peace

I will cherish the memory of getting out of my front door and finding Andy watering his plants (and often mine too luckily) and always exchanging a few words and marking the time as my daughter grew from baby to toddler. Having him as a neighbour was one of the things that made the big city still a friendly place. We will miss him.
