Gaynor was born in Mancot, North Wales, on 6 March 1935. Her work life started at the Shotton Telephone Exchange, where she honed her skills before moving to the bustling London Telephone Exchange and then becoming a receptionist for Cunard.
This role led her to a chance encounter with Gregory Peck, the actor, and to meet Gaynor and Gilbert’s cherished lifelong friends, Helen and Gavin.
Her final professional chapter was with Haringey Council, where she dedicated her time and talents and met her wonderful friend Dolores.
Gaynor’s life was not just about work. In Wales, she captivated hearts by entering beauty pageants, winning titles such as Miss Rhyl and Miss She. She even became a pin-up girl for soldiers stationed on Christmas Island, Australia—an accolade that was both a source of pride and playful annoyance for her loving husband, Gilbert.
Gaynor was a devoted wife and mother, always finding time to care for her husband and her two sons, Saul and Jake. Her culinary skills were legendary, with her Pavlova being a particular favourite at dinner parties. She always looked like a million dollars, no matter the occasion.
She was a woman who lived life to the fullest, always on the move yet never too busy to spread joy and warmth to those around her. Her legacy is one of grace, dedication, and an indomitable spirit that will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Gaynor will be deeply missed by Gilbert and her sons. Thank you for sharing your wonderful life with us.
