Imogene Bennett

A fond memory I have of my Grandmother is of her riding a bicycle to fetch supplies for her store. Typically, this task was done by one of her apprentices but none of them could be found and she needed to make her purchase before the supplier closed shop. She was in her 60’s and have NEVER ridden a bike in several decades. She went on her way and got the supplies but on her way back she fell off the bike and sustained several lacerations to her arms. She returned wounded, with her supplies and the broken bike in hand. When I expressed concern about the incident and my disapproval of her being an inexperienced rider. I complained that she could have waited. She simply said “if you have something to do…do it, when you fall, the farthest you can go is to the ground. So, the best thing to do is to get up, lick your wounds and move on”. She epitomizes triumph and a conqueror of challenges. I miss her sense of strength because she emanated it everyday and its even very contagious.

Mummy, dearest! You are gone but your memories will live on forever in our Love You forever!!

Mum if Love could have kept you here in the flesh you would be sitting among us with your kids and grand kids around you. I have to learn to close my eyes still speak to you in my heart because that’s where you will stay always. I love you

I wish I could have known you like how a great grand daughter should know her great-grandmother. To hear stories about you growing up which i am sure would have left me in stitches. You have lived a life with love, support and family around. What I can remember is that you loved horse racing and the only person I know that could sleep standing up. You are at rest, sleep well.

Aunty, your life was a blessing. Your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measures. You left your foot prints in the sand. Sleep on my dear aunty. Love, Verona.

One of the most hardworking and independent individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing; hardly ever liked having things done for her to the point that even food that just needed to add water, she’d still cook it. She was like a mother away from home and even if it’s not something I was fond of when I was a lot younger, it’s an experience I grew to enjoy as time went on. I’m sorry we didn’t get to enjoy our last game of domino. Rest well grandma

One of my most vivid memories of Grandma was when we were going around the house in Hellshire, doing work, resting, and so on. Grandma was watching TV, specifically the show Kushi, it was grandma’s favorite. We went in the living room to find Grandma, forehead to knees, sitting on the couch……..sleeping That was one of my favorites memories of Grandma. Love you Grandma, sleep tight. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Miss B was always a good domino companion. Always looked forward to spend time with. Her laughter was delightful which made our games that much more enjoyable.

Grandma Bennett was such a sweet person. I will always remember her sweet smile and calm demeanor. I remember coming from school and not feeling well and had to stop by her shop. She helped me and ensured that I was feeling better before going home. Sleep well Grandma. We will miss you dearly.
