We will always remember and cherish our regular meetings for meals together with Anne & Jim – they were filled with anecdotes laughter and joy. We loved Jim dearly and miss him greatly. Shirley & Louis
Jim was a gentleman in every sense of the word. He passed my scrutiny as a suitable suitor for my dear friend Anne with flying colours, and it was always a joy to see how happy they were together. Anne and Jim shared a life filled with love and adventures and it was our privilege to share some lovely meals together. I’m not sure if Jim ever quite forgave us for when the promised sunny walk along the seafront at Hythe ended in us being caught in a downpour. We squelched our way into the restaurant and dripped throughout lunch, but Jim, as always, put us all at ease with his gentle humour and stoicism. We will miss you Jim. Linda and Tim.
We were lucky enough to live close by to Jim and Anne for ten years and thoroughly enjoyed our chats, meals and drinks together. Special, generous people full of warmth, with a story or two and time for everyone. Jim is even to blame for my appalling golf game as he started me off with a gift of some clubs! He will be missed because he was loved, rest in peace. Ad, Nic and Rosabella
I have very fond memories of Jim from our hockey days. He was a true gentleman and will be very much missed by all his friends. Unfortunately I can’t make the funeral but will be thinking of him on the 26th November at 12pm. RIP Jim
We were lucky enough to have Jim visit us in New Zealand – We had such fun exploring New Zealand with him, and to us he was Uncle Jim from London. Lots of walking and laughter, and lots of food and wine (with mum and dad anyway). It is hard to believe your last trip was in 2009. We remember him so fondly x
I first met Jim at Lloyds Bank Hockey Club in the early 1990s, and a lasting friendship was borne. Jim was a lovely man – kind, decent, generous (for a Scot!), a gentleman with a dry wit and unforgettable laugh! He was also a fabulous cook. Over the years, we shared many memorable moments, including sand-boarding dunes in Northland, Kiwi watching on Stewart Island, singing Moon River while night kayaking in the Algonquin National Park, more wine tastings than I could possibly remember, family weddings in South Africa and Mauritius, numerous trips to New Zealand, holidaying with his Dad in the South of France, celebrating landmark birthdays in Brora, Bordeaux and Madrid. So many memories of a lovely man who I was honoured to call my friend. I will miss him dearly.
You were a great guy Jim who will be sorely missed for the Hi Jinks on our various golf tours. RIP mate. Peter & Alli x
So many good, fun memories from over the years Jim. Roger the girls and I will miss you greatly. Goodbye old friend. Jeannette
I have known Jim for over 40 years. Always a gent and great conversationalist. Have many happy memories of sharing a jar or three with him and then helping friends to find their way home. One of a kind and will be sorely missed by all he cam into contact with.
Jim, was our neighbour since 2006 and we were very happy for him when he met and married Anne. Jim was one of lifes gentlemen and the measure of him was just how easy it was to like him. Rest In Peace – God bless you Jim
I met Jim via Lloyds Bank hockey club, he was always sociable and good fun. We spent many good times including the infamous New Years Eve where we all lost 2 hours! In loving memory I have added a few of some good times we shared x
I first met Jim over 44 years ago when I joined the Lloyds Bank Hockey Club and, like many others, that was our social life as well as our hobby. There are many happy memories over the years, including our hockey tours to South Africa & Zoetermeer, with laughter and beer in equal measure! But there are two occasions that I will cherish always. The first being my 40th birthday ‘gang’ trip to Bordeaux, where we tasted the most divine wine in Saint-Émilion, Jim converted me to French cheeses and, being fluent in French, he charmed the owner of a restaurant to open especially for my birthday dinner! The second, is another group holiday to Algonquin Canada, with breath-taking scenery, hiking through the forests, drinks round the campfire, whilst howling to wolves and singing ‘Moon River’ as we canoed over a moonlit lake. I will raise a wee dram of the finest single malt Scotch whisky in your honour on 26th November. Farewell my huckleberry friend. Els x
I have very fond memories of the years spent playing hockey with LBHC, and of the many times that Jim and I played in the same team. This often involved trekking to away games in the far flung corners of Kent, or on hockey tours both home and abroad, or golf trips around the country. Happy days indeed . Jim really was a great guy, the epitome of the club. He was always welcoming, funny, friendly, generous, highly competitive, and without doubt the best dressed person in the room. So many happy memories, so many stories to tell. Jim, you will be sadly missed by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing you.
Derek met Jim in the 1960’s in Aberdeen when they both played hockey for Mannofield HC. Jim was instantly likeable, good looking, slim and a decent hockey player. After our hockey matches we always met up in the Star and Garter for a few pints. Over the years Wilma and I have thoroughly enjoyed both Jim and Anne’s company. We always knew our friendship with them would be long lasting and cherished. We have spent many happy times with both Anne and Jim in Aberdeen and London. Sadly missed, rest in peace, Jim. Love Wilma and Derek
Jim became part of my family when he and my sister Anne got together in 2012. Instantly likeable he was a true gentleman, kind, warm, generous with a lovely dry sense of humour. I have had the pleasure to spend a lot of time with Jim during the past 12 years, sharing his love for food, wine, art, music and walking. I will be ever thankful to Jim for the smile he brought to my sister’s face and the profound love he showed her. He faced his last year with much courage and stoicism with Anne by his side. Gone but never forgotten.
We are grateful we got to know Jim for over a decade as a stepfather, father-in-law, and grandfather. His warmth, wit, intelligence, love of sport, and all around kindness made him a treasured family member. I particularly valued his Scottish heritage as she reflected on her time there, and I loved sampling whisky and Scottish gins with him after a dinner that he and Anne had made. Alison Jim was a star! He shined brightly wherever he was and made the room glow with all of his joy. He was such a lively person who always made time for family and friends. Jim was the kind of person you were just drawn to and being around him just made me so happy. I remember one time we had gone as a family to Shenandoah National Park and we had been out all day so we went back to our cabin to relax. Me and my Dad decided to set up corn hole and neither Jim nor Granny had ever played it before! Jim was surprisingly good at it for his first time and beat several people. Jim was such an amazing person and I am so honored that I got to be a part of his long lasting legacy and his joyful and wondrous life. – Marianne I always loved my chats with Jim about our respective Dons teams (AFC Wimbledon and Aberdeen) and hearing about his culinary creations for Mum (and on a few occasions tasting them myself). I really enjoyed the few golf games I got to play with him and could instantly see why he is a perfect playing companion, with his calm demeanor, not taking it too seriously and keeping things fun. He made Mum so happy and I will always be thankful for that. We will all miss him terribly. Saul
Like many others I met Jim at the Lloyd’s Bank hockey club. Always a gentleman and very kind. I will always be grateful for the ‘loan’ of his garage! You will be missed x
Jim Reid, top man. I remember him as a friendly guy with a dry Scottish sense of humour and who did a lot of unsung work for the Club, including umpiring many of the 6th XI games I played in. He never even sent me off, such was his generous nature. My thoughts are with family and his many friends on this day. Ken Darke (sending this from Laos)
