About Lawrence's Life

With heavy hearts we say goodbye to a remarkable human being.
Lawrence has touched the lives of so many and now leaves a gaping void that will never be filled.
He was a generous man with a huge heart and an even bigger laugh.
He was an amazing clinician, extremely skilled surgeon, fantastic teacher, mentor, colleague and friend.
He will always be remembered for his infectious laugh, his mischievous sense of humour and his amazing determination and zest for life.
Lawrence loved his work and for three decades, more than two of which were at Guys and St Thomas’s he dedicated his life to obstetrics and gynaecology. He never had a day off sick until his first operation on 28th June 2021, even working on that morning doing admin tasks from his hospital room.
After a very difficult 18 months he returned to work and continued working until two weeks before he died, enjoying every single day.
Lawrence also loved family, friends, good food, football, any social occasion, iPhones, all animals particularly his beloved dog and cat, and of course adventure.
He travelled extensively with Joyce and his family in the last two years of his life, even when he wasn’t feeling brilliant his determination spurred him on.
“What a man” the words of his Oncology Professor.
In the words of his colleagues, second to none, legend, one of a kind, irreplaceable, cream of the crop, I could go on.
Keep flying high Lawrence your legacy will live on in the hearts of all you touched.
It’s so much darker when a light goes out than it would have been if it had never shone.
We will miss you forever.
