Obituary

About Mr Lawrence's Life

“…I have fought a good fight. I have finished my course.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

The untimely and sudden death of Mr Lawrence Lord Owusu, CEO of Lawrence Associates, a money transfer business in the UK on the 27th of August 2020 shocked colleagues, friends and family.

The late Mr. Lawrence Owusu aka Kwame Owusu was born on the 5th of May 1954 in Agona Swedru to Nana Ofori Amanfo 1 of Ayoko Royal Clan of Asante Akyem Asankara and Maame Ama Safoa from the Kwahu Omanhene Royal Stool, the Etena Brentford’s clan, both parents of blessed memory.

He attended the Salvation Army Basic School at Agona Swedru before continuing his secondary education in 1968 at Oda Secondary School where he obtained his “O” Level certificate in 1973.  He then went on to Accra Polytechnic and graduated with a Diploma in Accounting and Business Studies in 1975.

He took up a position at the then Merchant Bank, now Universal Merchant Bank where he later met his future wife, Mrs Doris Owusu.  Lawrence came to London in 1982 to pursue a professional qualification in banking and was later joined by his darling Doris. They were eventually married in London and had two children, Lawson Fiifi Owusu and Lloyd Owusu.

The pull of education remained: Lawrence graduated with a BA (Hons) from London Guildhall University and achieved his long ambition to be a banker by gaining the AIB Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers in 1995.  As the CEO of Lawrence Associates which was incorporated in 1996, he had franchises all over the country. His business ambitions led him to set up a money transfer business called Lawrence Associates Ltd in the UK, and established one of the best hotels of its kind with modern facilities in Agona Swedru called Cottage Na Grill.

His untimely and shocking demise at his residence on the 27th of August is a blow to everyone who knew him.

Fare thee well Kwame, may the good Lord keep you in his embrace.
