I am so sorry to learn about Mike’s passing and send my deepest condolences to Laura and Mike’s family. Mike was such a wonderful man and a great friend. My memories of Mike will always be happy ones and when I think of Mike I will always see him smiling and sharing a joke. He had a great sense of humor and even in his most difficult times he remained positive and happy. He was also a very kind man and there are many examples I could provide of his kindness and generosity to people. Mike you will be missed but you will always be in our hearts I am so honored to have known you. Your friend Bob
Thank you Mike for many happy memories of sports events and social times. It was a privilege to be able to share the joy of victories, the despair of defeats and the frustration of drawn matches. I can think of many football stadia and cricket grounds where we spent time watching the games and giving our expert assessments of the play alongside our other friends and supporters. You always had strong views on how the game had gone and who deserved to be celebrated and who should be blamed, but you would also always see the funny side too. The good times went beyond sports and I look back equally warmly on many debates about politics, music and Brookside, which made our friendship deeper and stronger. Thank you and rest well.
Looking back on my life one of the great things has been meeting and forming a lasting friendship with Mike. We had so many good times and so many laughs. People still talk of the night Mike jumped up on a chair to give a rendition of the Smith”This Charming Man” to the whole of the Everyman Bistro, waving a bunch of daffodils above his head. My friends and family in Liverpool always spoke fondly of “Cherno” and always will. He will be sorely missed
Thank you Mike for your friendship over half a century. I will never forget you.Condolences to Laura and thank you so much for looking after Mike
I lived in the next room to Mike in Rankin Hall during the early 1980s. He was always good humoured and often lifted my spirits at times when I found my course difficult. I am very sorry he has passed away and I would like to send my sincere condolences to his friends and family.
Sorry to read of Cherno’s passing, we both studied Politics at Liverpool University. Mike was a good person.
I am so moved by the love that you inspired from your friends and I am still so sad at the way your quality of life was so cruelly cut short. You were always my younger brother and sadly because of the dysfunctional way that we were bought up, you and I and our elder sisters were never close to one another. I, too, remember our shared sense of humour and our love of football. I do remember you fondly at your wedding. You were still well and extremely excited and happy. I was always impressed at the way that you managed to hide your pain and grief from everyone when you became ill. Laura was a fantastic wife and carer and you chose a wonderful partner. From the descriptions of your antics at University and elsewhere, I also realise, that we both became our true exuberant selves when we were away from our family. We could both breathe freely without the relentless criticism and attempts at control. You have left a treasure trove of happy memories with your friends they feel your loss very keenly. That is your legacy to them. I feel the loss of you, my dear brother. You died too young and I fully empathise as to why you saw no point in continuing to live what had become a cruel and hollow life- something to be endured, rather than enjoyed. I know that your physical and emotional pain has gone and that must be a huge relief. I, hope that you are now finally at rest.
