Growing up in Hackney and attending Upton House in the first year is when we met, we were brothers for the 5/6 years we were at school and after when we started working. I am broken brother, I can’t believe it, we missed out on so much of our lives – but Paul in the time we were growing up I truly experienced what a friendship is. Thank you for the time we had, and all the people from our class one love brother. The best central midfielder Upton house ever had! all the family, my deepest, deepest and sincere condolences .

Paul was a close colleague of mine in his last job at Barclays. We quickly struck up a friendship as I loved hearing the stories from his youth growing up with 5 brothers, for example on his paper round being attacked by an Alsatian who he tried to fight off with a rolled up newspaper! He was a tremendous character, great company, with a brilliant laugh and lovely smile. We shared many a drink over the years and especially over the covid period when we couldn’t go into the office, we would meet up locally, wind, rain or shine even to sit outside, and have a good chat! I was terribly sad to hear the news that Paul had passed away, along with many others I will miss him greatly. In the words of his beloved Liverpool FC, You’ll Never Walk Alone. Rest easy mate and wishing all the strength to the family❤️

First I would like to say condolences to the bethune family I started Upton house same time as Paul and I would say he was a straight talking young man with a big smile and a big heart I played for the school with him and there was a few with nicknames and Paul was given the name crazy horse because of his strength and desire to win at all cost he was our nobby stiles he was given that name by our teacher/manager Mr wearing a man with a passion for football and had come across many top footballers in his time and I can still see the pleasure he got when watching Paul break up attacks from the opposition with fearless tackling ability.paul will be missed and it was a pleasure to have been his friend.RIP brother

My condolences to Paul’s family. I worked with Paul at Barclays Trinity Park Mid Corp Business Centre and then followed him in the Business banking world at Soho Sq and Cheapside. He taught and mentored me throughout the years. He spoke of his mother, wife children and brothers with some much love and affection. He was so clear on what he wanted and went for it. Where do I start, The Bethune family is my second family. I grew up with mum and the boys…truly my brothers from another mother. My heartfelt condolences to you mum and my brothers. Paul was a true gentleman with a sincere heart of gold. I’ll never forget his infectious laughter! My deepest condolence to the whole family. My memories of Paul are happy. We would often sit on the steps outside his house or mine talking for hours, about what we would like to be when we grew up. He was a gentle , kind soul who was a genuine person. May we see you in the sky at night as shinny bright as you did with us My thoughts are with his family and the Bethune.

My most sincere condolences goes out to the Bethune family. It was a real shock to hear of the passing of Paul.. I saw him once since we left school a good few years ago at baker st where we hugged out of shear joy of seeing each other after what would of been 35+years. (ps.. he hadn’t changed a bit) S.I.E.P. My Deepest condolences to Paul’s family. I worked with Paul at Barclays for many years, sharing similar interests including our love of Liverpool FC. We would often meet for long lunches, especially during the summer period where it usually centred around the watching of a sporting event. I will always remember his kindness and that infectious laugh, he was just a joy to be around. RIP my friend. xx

What can i say about my brother in law paul . We’ve known each other for 41 years, a kind and gentle boy that grew into that same man . We always had a laugh. We sat on the great steps of mums house on hot summer evenings, your brothers your mum with happiness and laughter. Friends, family and neighbour’s came and went,they also sat on them steps. We all grew slowly made our own paths in life but always came back to them same steps. You married and became a great father but we still remained on them steps. All our children and great grandchildren grew and they joined us on them steps and the laughter grew and the sun shined brighter. We lost you to early but on that day we all gathered to sit on them same steps. God holds you in his hands now but our memories will never die. Your always find us sitting on them same steps. God bless you paul till we meet again.save a space on your step for us all xxx

My sincere condolences, Paul was such a blessed always cool and generally a nice guy.i hadn’t seen him in years. But on hearing of this sad news I remember the last time we saw each other, we both said we were in a hurry, an hour later finally saying goodbye. RIEP my brother from another mother

Paul, From watching Liverpool games together, talking about life and growth, to asking for a cheeky drumstick when me and Ben use to religiously go golden fried and Barbara would have a go because it was so greasy. Thank you for being a great mentor and bringing peace to my youth growing up. Being in your presence was always a pleasure, especially when I was able to bring out that infectious laugh! You will live on through all your family and I will be sure to pass you on through mine as you was a great human being who we all loved. Sean

I absolutely adored ‘Benny Buffoon’ (no idea how he got that nickname!)..he was a huge part of our ‘Barclays gang’ back in the day, around 1987 onwards….Afterwork drinks in ‘Bentleys’Hoe St and weekend clubbing at Ritzys or Rios/Polo Club. He was a true gentleman and an absolute legend. And that laugh!! This is a photo of me n him at my leaving do when I escaped Barclays in 2008.
