The memories are clear and bittersweet, When I first laid eyes upon you. For my college-going self, it was a visual treat, Never thought we’d come to know each other like we do. You squirmed in your cot, and as your mom held you out You inspected my face intently, While your dad worried much that I would drop you and such, You settled in my arms comfortably. The first time I held you, you felt warm and surreal, A real live baby we had in our midst, Your coos and gurgled sounds, filled the air with a thrill, A ray of sunshine had formed with us, a tryst. As an aunt it was awesome, to watch you play and exert, The time flew so swiftly by, I would wait for the end of each day and alert, To come see you and spend with you time. You would wail in your playpen, As you grew before my eyes, Tall and sprightly, athletic and lean. Your birthdays just sped by, each one increasing you in size, Before we knew it you were already a ‘tween. So soon on your heels, along came your brother, And the way you would quickly defend, His mischief and his wiles, nary a hint would you betray, As you weathered his punishments and pretend. What an amazing big brother, as you guided him along Your bond becoming secure, through life’s bends, As you both forged through life, differing paths and its strife, You remained loyal and proud of him right to the end. But you played big brother not only to your own, As I witnessed again and again. Along came my two, and your generosity was shown, On your lap you would read to them plain. Disease wasn’t kind, but you took it in stride, Like no one else has of anyone I’ve known. If ever there was a time your intelligence showed, It was then that we saw how in maturity you’d grown. Life was hampered from then on, everyday a new thorn, As you took on life’s challenges and moved. From day to day you read and learned, with no bitterness nor scorn, Your resilience and fortitude you proved. Determination to beat the odds and live, You found reserves causing everyone’s disbelief, You had courage that we did not, you learned to cope, we could not, You put your mind to work between pain and relief. Your goodness never failed, you found ways to display love, The thoughtfulness you showed challenged us. Many a time you would spend hours and ways to be kind, To gift each one of us and make such a fuss. Your kindness spilled over from man even to beast, As you lovingly caressed your pets, They were the healing balm you needed, when medicine failed and efficacy ceased, You would take comfort in their company and find rest. The times glorious we had, at 3AM eating ice cream with intent, Watching Deja Vu, I’ll never forget, In every conversation we had, I knew you were special and heaven-sent, Hours of intelligent talk with you spent. You taught my girl how to hoop a ball and shared profound literature to broaden Her mind and to expand critique, My son found in you a mentor, a role model and an inventor, Your mechanical mind was fascinating and unique. As you easily excelled at sports and studies alike, You left a trailblazing path to follow on, While technical pursuits were second nature to you, and your mind never dulled, You honed aspirations in others so strong. Your heartaches and pain shared with me are not in vain, And I will take them with me to my grave, Revan, you are an angel with a mission, among us lived so long a miracle, A pathway to live and endure, your life paved. You brought us together and amidst us you still live, And our bonds will never sever, this I know. God needed you more, your mission complete, you’ve now taken your mercy seat but we will love you, though you’ve had to go. Revan, we will see you, of this I have no doubt, We will count the days until then, When we are united again,.and we see your smiling face, over the horizon, just yonder the bend. Aunty Simi.

Dear Ruvini, please accept my heartfelt condolences on the passing away of your beloved son, May his beautiful soul through the mercy of God rest in peace. There is a gate at the end of the road where each must go his own, and there in a light we cannot see the Father claims His own. May the Road rise to meet Raven, may the wind be always at your back, may the sunshine smile upon your face, may the rain fall soft against your fields and until we meet again may God hold you in the palm of His hand. Rest Eternal grant unto Revan O Lord and let your perpetual light shine on him May he rest in peace. Eshantha de Andrado
