Obituary

Sarah Boadiwah Baah died after a short illness in London on April 21, 2024. She was born in Akrokerri, Ashanti, Ghana on August 8, 1939. Her parents were Mr. Francis Kwabena Mensah and Madam Adwoa Pinamang. Sarah attended Primary School at Obuasi and Middle school at Mofratro Boarding School, in Kumasi where she received her Elementary School certificate in 1954. She went on to earn her Nursing and Midwifery credentials at the Central Hospital, Kumasi, Ghana in 1957. Upon graduation, Sarah accepted postings in mostly impoverish regions of the country including Tamale, Koforidua, and Dunkwa Government Hospitals to begin her lifelong nursing career that lasted over four-decades. In Tamale, Sarah met the love of her life, Mr. Michael Kwabena Baah, a businessman. They were married in 1964 and soon after, Mr. Baah moved to London to pursue studies in business. He subsequently worked for the then Black Star Line of Ghana. In 1965 Sarah joined her husband in London and continued her nursing career. Upon further studies, she specialised in Neonatal Nursing and Midwifery at Queen Charlotte’s Maternity Hospital in Hammersmith, London. Sarah was blessed with three children: Frank Baah (of blessed memory), Nana Abenah Pinamang Jones and Francis Baah. The family returned to Ghana in 1971 where Sarah continued her nursing career at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, in Accra. In 1976 Sarah was among the Pioneering Registered Nursing Staff to establish the Ghana Police Hospital initially as Chief Inspector (Nursing) Registered Nurse / Neonatal Practitioner and Registered Midwife Practitioner. Unfortunately, Mr. Baah passed away after a short illness in 1984. Five years later Sarah retired as Police Superintendent (Nursing) and returned to London, where she continued her Nursing career in various hospitals in London including Royal Masonic Hospital, Westminster Hospital, St Stephens Hospital and Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, until her retirement in 2000. Sarah made a lasting impact on her patients and colleagues alike at these hospitals. She had a natural ability to connect with people and always put her patients' needs first. She was known for going above and beyond to make sure they felt cared for and supported, earning many accolades for her work. Sarah was blessed with large family. She is survived by her two children Nana Abenah Pinamang Jones, Francis Baah and grandson, Mikayah. She is also survived by two siblings, several half-siblings, cousins, nieces, nephews, and in- laws. Sarah was baptised and confirmed as Methodist. She loved reading the Bible and listening to and watching Christian radio and television stations. She will be remembered as a kind, compassionate, and generous person who made a difference in the lives of so many including her large extended family. Her legacy of love, service and kindness will live on through her children, grandchildren, family, friends, and the countless patients whose lives she touched during her career as a Registered Nurse and Midwife. The family feels a sense of tremendous loss and Sarah will be deeply missed. May her Soul Rest in Eternal Peace. Her selflessness, guidance, and boundless love have left an indelible mark on my heart and soul. Despite facing the loss of my father, she chose to remain steadfast in her commitment to me, ensuring that I always felt loved and protected. Her decision to prioritize my well-being above all else is a testament to the strength of her maternal love and the depth of her character. From sending me to Achimota Secondary School in Ghana to being my best friend and confidante, my mother was my rock, my anchor, and my home. She instilled in me values of resilience, compassion, and integrity that continue to guide me every day. Your presence brought light and warmth to all who knew you, and your kindness touched the hearts of many. From the laughter we shared to the comforting moments we held, every memory with you is a treasured gift that I will forever hold close to my heart. Your spirit lives on in the memories we created and the love we shared. Though she may no longer be physically present, her spirit lives on in the lessons she imparted, the memories we shared, and the love that binds us eternally. I am forever grateful for everything she has done for me, and I carry her legacy with me always. Rest in peace, dear Mother. Your love will always be my guiding light
