Sincere condolences to you all. Simon was a kind, empathetic, intelligent and extremely witty man. It was my privilege to have met him as his children’s teacher, then a mentor when he trained and a valued colleague as part of our Year 6 Team. So many happy memories, laughs during school journey and stories of hilarious incidents during some lessons. It is so, so hard to believe he has left this mortal world. Simon you were an inspiration, a compassionate soul and a good friend. You will be missed. Rest in Peace. Xx
I worked with Simon for a number of years and even bunked with him and Jude when I was homeless for a while. Fantastic man with a matchless wit. Kind, generous, the best company. I can’t believe he’s gone. My deepest condolences. He leaves a big hole in the lives of others.
So sorry to hear of Simon’s passing . Thoughts and condolences to all his family.
Simon, I miss you more than words can say. Rest in peace my love and be free ❤️❤️
RIP lovely Simon – clever, funny, gorgeous, and ever kind. I will always remember you – the music, the walks, the stories, the suppers. It was so good to see you in Herefordshire in recent years – seeing you pick up the cricket bat with Jason and hearing your typically dry take on the pundits at Hay. XXX
Very sad to hear about Simon’s death. We have fond memories from the early years of raising our kids and sharing nannies! Our kindest thoughts go to Jason and Rachel and all the family
Many great memories of Senior School friendship and nights out in Bolton back in the day. Sincere condolences to all concerned..sleep well Si.
There are moments in life we never want to experience! Unfortunately, we must accept them with pain and tears. My condolences go to you, dearest Jason, Rachel, and Judith. I cherish the beautiful moments we shared with Simon that I will never forget His intelligence, politeness, patience, and his ability to speak Italian well, better than my English!!! Stay strong, I’m holding you close, I love you with the same affection as always ❤️”
Dear Simon, Judith first introduced us in Sheffield, back when you were still in college, and from that moment on we remained friends. How many happy days we shared together — your holidays with us in Italy and ours with you in London… such wonderful memories. We had so many beautiful conversations, talking about politics, society, history, art, and of course sports with Franco. With your intelligence, culture, and sense of humor, it was always a joy to be with you. You learned Italian so well — you thought you had forgotten it, but when we saw you again in November after so many years, you started speaking as if no time had passed. We were all deeply moved and so grateful for that meeting, for it gave us the chance to hug you once more — and for the last time. Fly high, dear Simon. Fly wherever your heart takes you.
My sincere condolences to the family. It’s the saddest of goodbyes to a great lifelong friend – one of the funniest, warmest and nicest people you could ever meet. RIP Simon, taken from us far too soon.
University and the years after seem such a long time ago now Si but I will always remember the close friendship we had and the times we shared together. My thoughts and deepest sympathy to all of Si’s family.
Our thoughts and sympathy are with Si’s family. We are sorry that we cannot be at today’s funeral to send him off. We had a great friendship over many years. I’m sorry we lost contact in the last decade or so. Some particular moments to share: The smoky back bar at the Howcroft, enjoying a few pints and arrows; Going to see The Cure and The Fall at Hulme Community Centre with a few hundred other brave souls; Our Inter Rail trip around Europe with an early highlight, a 15 hour session in Hamburg finishing off at the harbour at the fishermen’s bar for a breakfast beer; Ponytrekking in the Black Mountains and wedding crashing at the Baskerville Arms; Searching out a pub that was open on Halliwell Road on Christmas Day. Rest in peace Mark and Lee Dakeyne
I only met Simon a handful of times in the early 90s through his brother Mick, but could tell immediately what a lovely guy he was. And a real gentleman. We all went to the 1992 European Cup final at Wembley, sadly not involving Bolton Wanderers but instead Barcelona and Sampdoria. Barca won the trophy for the first time, with a young Pep Guardiola in midfield. We were all young then! Simon was a good looking dude like his brother and was on fine form. What a lovely tribute you have put together and my sympathies to all of Simon’s family xx
Si was a dear and close friend from the age of 16. We shared so many wonderful, funny and crazy memories. We laughed at the same comedians, shared the same music, supported the same team, played in the same team, holidayed together. When we first met all those years ago an unbreakable bond was created between us and whilst we didn’t see each other as much as we should have that bond has remained securely in place. I will cherish those wonderful memories forever. Sleep well Si x
