We used to joke with my Dad that he only ever wore blue.

We'd like to request that everyone wear something blue to honour him, but this is by no-means an obligation.

I would like to say Steve was not only a colleague, but a friend. I worked with him on many contracts and he will be much missed. Kind Regards John, Sarah and family

I was saddened to read about the sudden passing of my friend and former colleague, Steve. I’d known Steve for over forty years in the petrochemical industry, and he was one of the good ones — always approachable, always helpful, and genuinely pleasant to deal with. He had a great sense of humour, never gossiped and you could trust him completely— a rare thing in our competitive line of work. Steve was a talented and well-respected engineer, but more importantly, he was a kind and decent person. I’ll miss his friendship, his honesty and his funny YouTube clips and emails he used to send me. Rest easy Steve — you’ll be missed. Harun…

I worked on so many jobs with Steve and sometimes felt I’d spent more time with him than I had with my wife. He was usually my right hand man. He was 100% reliable and had a wicked sense of humour. Whenever I went on holiday he would keep a diary of everything that had happened during my absence. The problem was that when he handed me his diary it was so heavy I felt as if I would need to take a week off to read it. He set such high standards for himself and these were sometimes difficult for me to match up to. I will miss Steve so much. He was really such a good friend.

My thoughts about Steve will always be with me as long as I live, he became a good colleague and friend during my professional time working with him in London. I remember that while walking during our lunch breaks he always without me knowing correcting me without pointing out to do things better in business and life. And that is the man I respected and always shall remember.

I was deeply saddened by the news that Steve had passed. He had been a good friend and work colleague for nearly fifty years. Socially he was great fun to be with. I always loved that when something he found funny, his shoulders would start moving, and you lost him for a while. Work wise he was incredibly diligent. He kept records for everything he worked on. His style of working was beyond reproach. We kept in touch via email when he moved ‘up North’. His emails were always full about his new life and family happenings. He will be sorely missed.

Arthur Moss16 Oct 2025

Arthur Moss I first met Steve in the early 1970’s, working in the Pipe Stress 0ffice of Stone & Webster ,our boss was Terry Bromley, Terry has asked me to convey his condolences to Steve’s family, he is unable to attend the funeral, he has just had major heart surgery and is not a well man. Steve’s first ‘agency job’ was at Lummus, I was ‘lead’ on FCC & Merox Unit but struggling, I told them that I needed another 3 men in order to get the work out, they gave me Steve, no one else. Steve was fantastic. I dropped the ‘lead’ bit ,as a team we met all their targets. Steve went on to Jobsite in Holland and saw the job through to a successful completion. I introduced Steve to my accountant Anthony they become good friends….Steve’s work was to the highest calibre, played good rugby, and was the kindest person. We wrote to each other every Christmas ,I looked forward to that letter, I will miss it, and Steve dearly.. Stella and I send our sincere condolences to Annette, and Steve’s Mum and all the family…

Terribly sad news of Steve’s passing. I had lost contact since retirement but reading the messages brings back all the memories. Doug’s recollection of his laughter combined with his shoulder movements were so typical, it was quite infectious. He was always meticulous, there was no other way, reliable and one of the first to be contacted when a new project opened. Sending all our love and best wishes Sally & Chris Eida

My sincere condolences to the Steve Young Family. Steve, was a work colleague of mine over many years, having met for the first time while working at Santa Fe Braun in Milton Keynes. We shared “new baby stories” and picture views, Chris and my son were born around about the same year. As the years and new contracts rolled on, we often updated each other on progress of our sons. Steve, was a very loved, warm and welcoming colleague, always helpful and hardworking, he will be sadly missed. Wishing the Steve Young Family, peace and happiness in the days to come. In memory of Steve, Francis Uzoziri

We were so deeply saddened to hear of Steve’s passing. Steve was a good friend and neighbour for over 30 years and we shared many happy times together in Biddenham. BBQs in the summer and dinners in the evening, always filled with good humour and laughter and Steve’s unfailing generosity and hospitality. Steve always had a story to tell and would keep us entertained with his vivid account of events. We kept in touch when he and Annette moved away and when we visited them in their new home, it felt like old times back in Biddenham. We are privileged to have known Steve and will always remember him with deep affection, he was kind, generous, witty and above all a true gentleman, one of a kind. Our deepest and heartfelt felt condolences to Annette, to Steve’s Mum and to Chris and his family.

Such sad news . I acted for Steve as his Accountant since the early eighties having been referred by Arthur Moss who Steve worked with . We used to meet every year at the Bull and Bush in more recent years as it was close to his mother’s home in Hendon. He was a delightful client and Steve’s letters were always a pleasure to behold and read . He will be sorely missed by my colleagues and I . Our sincere condolences to his Family and Friends.

I was totally in shock when Arthur Moss shared the sad news, I just could not comprehend it. I worked with Steve back in the 1980’s at Lummus. That’s getting on for over 40 years ago now, where does the time go??? Although we kept in touch, all be it only by the traditional Christmas card and the annual family news letter I still have abiding and very fond memories of the time we worked together. Steve wasn’t just a work colleague but a friend and a genuine team player. Thorough, diligent, loyal, supportive, meticulous are just some of the my thoughts and memories of Steve. A real gentleman and a credit to his profession, an asset to the industry which he carried over into his personal and family life. I cannot be with you on Friday but my thoughts and prayers will be with you. I will pause at 12 o’clock to remember and pay my respects privately in Somerset. Steve may have left us behind but no one can take away those memories. Rest easy Steve, you’ve done your bit………

My heart goes out to Steve’s family who I am sure are devastated his sudden loss. I am sure I can do nothing to ease their pain; except I believe that Steve soul is still alive and in the arms of his maker and if I am half as worthy as Steve was during his life, I hope to join him in the not-to-distant future. During his life Steve was very good friend to me, and I could always depend on his support both at work and as a friend. I first met Steve, too long ago for an old man to remember, perhaps it was in the 70’s but he stood out for the thoroughness and neatness in all his work. It was always perfect. Sadly, I am in Milton Keynes Hospital and unable to pay my respects in person to the body of Steve, but I am hopeful I can continue our friendship, soul to soul. Bye for now Bob
