Victoria Adagu Anaradoh “Osinigwe”

Victoria (Vicky) Anaradoh was a cherished mother, sister, in-law, aunt, cousin, and friend. Her departure has left an irreplaceable void in our lives, but her spirit and the love she shared will forever guide and comfort us.

Early Life Born October 26, 1938 at Nri, Vicky was the third of five children, who included two elder sisters and two younger brothers. She is survived by her youngest brother Chief G. I. Okoye (Ozonridigbo)..

Family Life Vicky was married to Peter Okechukwu Anaradoh of Adazi Nnukwu and was a proud and loving mother to her two daughters, Francisca Obii Ogubuilo and Mary-Anne Uchechukwu Anaradoh. As a mother, she was our confidante, our guiding star, and our greatest supporter.  She dedicated her life to nurturing her family, upholding values of kindness, resilience, and integrity. Her warm smile and demeanor could light up any room, making everyone feel welcomed and cherished.

Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her immediate family, touching the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was a pillar of strength and a source of boundless encouragement. Her dedication to her family and community was evident in all she did.

Career Vicky began her career as a teacher in Nigeria. On arriving in the UK, she studied hotel and catering management. She then went on to work as a Junior Superintendent at the Post Office, a significant achievement at the time, and then as a Catering Manager in the school meals service. In Nigeria she worked as a Catering Manager at the Hotel Metropole in Enugu, and then went on to teach at Enugu’s Hotel and Catering School.

Prior to her retirement, Vicky was a primary school teacher in the London Borough of Ealing.

Community Work Whether she was instructing young minds in Igbo language, tradition and culture at the Igbo School, or serving as a matron in the community groups she loved so dearly, including Nri Community Association and the Anambra Women’s International, Vicky gave her time and talents selflessly. Her commitment to uplifting others and preserving cultural values left a lasting impact on all who crossed her path.

Legacy As we navigate life without her physical presence, we find solace in the memories we’ve shared and the lessons she imparted. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled in us, the love she spread, and the lives she touched.

We invite family and friends to share their memories, stories, and photos on this memory page, celebrating Vicky’s life. May we find comfort in each other’s recollections and continue to honour her memory by embodying the love and generosity that she exemplified every day.

Tribute to a wonderful mother Rest in peace, our dearest, darling Mother. Your love remains the foundation upon which we build our lives, and your spirit will forever be a guiding light in our hearts.

Your daughters, Uche and Obii

My heart breaks as I continue to come to terms with your passing, auntie. You were such a joy to be around, learn from and listen to. For as long as I remember, you have been a staple figure in me and my siblings lives. My fondest memories of you include attending igbo school and learning igbo songs, words and sentences from you. You were so diligent in teaching all the pupils and I remember being surprised when I realised you had created the worksheets yourself (and drawn the pictures). I used to be a big fan of your baking, especially your carrot cake. Your heart for others was so big – from you baking our holy communion cake to tailoring so many of our ankara printed clothes. I don’t think I ever remember you saying “No” to any of our requests. I will really miss coming over to visit you, our phone calls, the way you would sing my name whenever you’d see me and hear from me (“Odeeeeraa”). I really enjoyed spending time with you, auntie – from listening to your life stories, being surprised that you were once fluent in Hausa, your love for puna yam, watching Nollywood films with you, the way you would link arms with me whenever I came to visit and your endearing reactions to my interest in learning more about your life stories. You gave me heartfelt advice during challenging times in my life and I was grateful for your support. So much so, that when I was ready to take a big step in my life, I knew you would be cheering me on (which you did). Your resilience has been a revelation to your character, auntie and I can see how your strength, ardour and motivation has not only touched your daughters and those closest to you but tells your story – one of such fortitude. I will miss you so much! I wish we had more time together, but I have to proactively remind myself that you are in a better place, now. It still hurts to know that you are physically no longer with us, but I hope to keep you alive through my memories of and with you. Thank you for everything, auntie and rest in peace.

My Dear Aunty Vicky It is hard to believe that you are gone. I have such fund memories of you in my younger years. You were a brilliant cook, incredibly witty, you also encouraged and supported me with good advice. I pray that we all get the chance to meet again, when Jesus returns. Amen

Obii and Uche….please accept my heartfelt condolences at the passing of your Mummy. There is no script or guide to navigate for the loss of a loved and cherished Mummy, but know that our Heavenly Father has welcomed her home and trust that with each passing day, He is and will continually uphold you, sending comfort in His own way.   Auntie Vicky, admittedly, I only met you a few times but my greatest impression at each occasion was being received with a bright lovely demeanour, a beautiful welcoming smile which conveyed warmth and enthusiasm.   The photos and many tributes shared, show clearly that you loved life and lived it to the full. A protective Mother of two eloquent, clever and confident ladies; an educator helping to shape and enrich the lives of many and an active member of the Igbo community, championing Igbo culture and values.   You were very much blessed by the love, loyalty and care of your daughters and son-in -law Peter.    “It is not the number of years of life but the life in your years” so the saying goes. You have definitely loved and lived life to the full. God blessed you with many years, you stayed the course, ran your race well and have handed over the baton. Now you are deservedly resting in peace. May your memory and legacy never fade Farewell   Carol K Ukaegbu

My dear Uche & Oby, so sorry for the loss of auntie! It’s sad and she is in a better place with no more pain or sickness. I pray that God will comfort and console the family. Am really happy that I saw her during my visit and had the opportunity to have spent quality time with her and also reconnected her with my mom. They talked and laughed so hard and it made my day. My darling Aunty Victoria Anaradoh, On 10th January 2025 Aunty Flora called me and asked me she heard you are no more I told her it’s not possible it’s a rumor. I have to confirm from Uncle that same day & he told me it’s true. I was down throughout that day. I still remember the last time I saw you when I was a kid, but we always talked on the phone. I was always fond on you Aunty Victoria may God keep you on his right hand, your life is well spent in this universe because you are a woman of peace, a woman of substance, a woman of principles, my adviser general, my protector angel. RIP my Mrs World Universe till we meet to part no more.

Farewell to the Beautiful Auntie Vicky Auntie Vicky you were a wonderful inspirational woman who touched the hearts of so many. I remember the times visiting you in Harlesden, London, with my Mum, and you would insist on taking my measurements and then a few weeks later call to say you had made an outfit for me. The outfits were always made from Ankara and so beautiful. I gave you the title “Vicky Fashions”, and you would laugh whenever I’d speak to you and ask you what designs “Vicky Fashions” had made for me. Such a beautiful smile and laugh. Auntie, although you are physically no more on this earth, you live forever in the happy and fond memories I have of you, and because of the good things you have done for others, I know that you are resting in peace. May your beautiful soul rest in eternal peace. My deepest condolences to your beautiful daughters Uche and Obii. from Anulika Nwachukwu nee Madichie

“A Tribute to Mrs. Victoria Anarodo: A Catalyst for Empowerment I am honored to pay tribute to an extraordinary woman, Mrs. Anarodo, who played a transformative role in my mother’s entrepreneurial journey. To us, she was more than just a mentor – she was a sister, a confidante, and a catalyst who ignited a spark within my mom. Through her guidance and support, my mom discovered her passion for baking, often assisting Mrs. Anarodo with large orders for special occasions. With patience, wisdom, and generosity, Mrs. Anarodo equipped my mom with the tools and encouragement needed to turn her dreams into reality. The impact of Mrs. Anarodo’s influence was profound. My mom’s entrepreneurial venture flourished, bringing joy and financial stability to our family, especially during challenging times when my dad’s organization owed him years of salary. I am forever grateful for the ripple effect of Mrs. Anarodo’s kindness, which extended beyond my mom to our entire family. Her legacy continues to inspire me, particularly the value of love irrespective of the person’s status, which she instilled in me from a young age and remains a guiding principle in my life. Thank you, Mrs. Anarodo, for being a shining example of kindness, generosity, and empowerment. Your influence will never be forgotten. With heartfelt appreciation, Mrs. Okwuchigwara Okoye (Aniche’s family)”

Chibuzo Obayi-Eneh26 Jan 2025

Aunty V, It still feels like yester years with you, calling out to “Chigbii” as you fondly called me to come and eat ofe onugbu or sumptuous meat pie. Adagu!, indeed your onugbu soup was like no other. You were such a kind heart, and I make bold to say that your home at Harlesden from the 80’s to the early 2000’s was a home for all. A home that belonged to all of us yet it rightly belonged to you. You were a great inspiration to everyone who crossed your path, and you always admonished in love. The friendship you shared with my mum and Aunty Collette was next to none. Indeed it confirmed to me, that the Igbo adage “nwanne di na mbaa” is real. I thank the Lord for the gift of you and I pray that he pardons the world and blesses us with many more like you. To Uche and Obii, I say God bless and reward you both, my sisters for taking good care of Adagu. Rejoice and be glad for Aunty Vicky is smiling down and watching over you. Naa nke oma my dearest Aunty Adagu “Osinigwe ” ♥️ Chigbii loves you and I will forever have special memories of you and a beautiful place in my heart for you. May your gentle soul continue to rest in perfect peace Amen.

Betty Nwalusi27 Jan 2025

Victoria Anaradoh was a dear friend, neighbor, and sister, and the news of her departure came to me as a shock. Though death is inevitable, I have never seen her sick. I knew you, Vicky, as a strong, energetic, hard-working lady with good health. I recall the days we lived in the same building with only a wall separating us, even having the same profession. After our official career work, we stayed up working our private jobs til late at night. Sometimes we competed on who would be the last to turn off the light at night, and you always won. I often said to myself, “Don’t you know Vicky will be the winner.” Vicky was a lady who held the welfare and progress of her family very dearly and loved her profession to a fault. I thank God for your life. You were a blessed mom of two loving children, a devoted Christian, and faithful to your spouse. The grace of God granted you 80 years as He promises those He loves in Pslam 90:10. Rest in the Lord. Adieu, Vicky, my dear friend and sister. From,  Betty Nwalusi, for the Nwalusi family.

Rachel Hawadi27 Jan 2025

Mama thank you for sharing your life with us and for raising my beautiful friend Frankie. I thank you also for letting me stay with you when I was in dire straights with nowhere to go.  I have always thought very fondly of you. You represent all that is beautiful, graceful and elegant in a mother figure. Watch over Frankie and Uche. Till we meet again.

Uche Ajaegbu27 Jan 2025

Auntie Vicky, you have always been to me and my siblings. You were my Mum’s best friend. My first sight of you were through my parents wedding photographs where you were the Chief Brides Maid. Then Aunty Vicky came back to Nigeria with her children and the distant relationship became very close. I will never forget the pastries that she spoilt us with. I still cherish the memory of the last time we met physically. She had visited Lagos and I had gone to see her. Auntie Vicky was our other mother. My joy is that you lived a good life. You will be sorely missed and my heart goes out to Uche and Obii. May Auntie Vicky’s soul rest in perfect peace. Amen.

GREATNESS OKOYEReply29 Jan 2025

My Bible make me to understand there’s time/season for everything. A time to live and a time to die. We all know the destiny of every lives is death, but at the destined time, which no man can predict. It continue to tell me, we should celebrate with those that celebrates and morn with them that morn… I CHIGOZIE GREATNESS OKOYE (ANAKWARI WORLDWID) morn with you, believing she’s resting in blossom of heaven.  Don’t forget their are still the living that are ready to go beyond for you..❤️

Chief/Engr Gordian Okoye28 Jan 2025

From Chief GI Okoye – OzoNridigbo. My dear sister- Adagu that you were, you were not given that name for fancy. Your entire life represented that name. The name fitted well in the way you lived your life. Ada Osinigwe, your beauty very well represented the name – Nwanyi si nigwe, meaning a beauty from the sky, a true representative of beauty in the family. Ada Okoye Ozonma, Ada Okoye Nnanyelugo, Ada Okoye Okwukolunenu Onwelu Ngu Kotuo nye. (Meaning – no matter how difficult a case is your dad had the talent and capacity to settle it.), last but not least in your decorated names – Ada Osinigwe, which you took as your aka to keep our beloved mum’s name alive. I am full of tears writing this. I have dreaded writing a memorial for you and that is why it took this while for me to put this little bit in. It hurts and it is unbearably painful to think of the fact that I am now the only one left out of our mother’s children.I see myself as the lone tree standing in life waiting to join the rest of you. I remember how we used to sit and chat about our family and how hard we all worked to reach our various levels in life. Paying respect, recognition and dignifying our dear late mum for taking up the challenge to raise us all up when our dad died at a young age. Those chats remained reflective on our bond even though as humans we sometimes erred in understanding human characters and reasons for our certain behaviours. We had a good sister/brother relationship and I will always remember and cherish how tenderly all of you handled me as your little last one. I can go on and on without stopping but most importantly I want to praise and appreciate your children, Uche and Obii for the love they showed you. I want to say to them that whatever has a beginning must have an end. It is a journey that we are all created to embark on and which has an end point. We will all reach that end point one day in our lives. Your mum did not do badly in life. She achieved whatever the Almighy destined for her. As the saying goes, the world is a stage where everyone plays a part. She certainly in all ramifications played her part well. Let us all believe that she is having an eternal rest and remembering us where she is. May eternal rest grant her Oh Lord that when you so destine we shall all meet and never to part no more. Adieu Ada Okoye Ozonma. Rest in the Lord and pray for us mortals.

My dear aunty Vicky, has done her race on earth and has gone to be with the Lord. She lived a fulfilled life and surrounded by loved ones especially her precious daughters – Uche and Oby. Stella Uju Nwosu (Fine girl )31 Jan 2025

Uche, Oby and uncle Goddy, I feel your pain and loss. I am equally pained by her demise considering my relationship with her and the rest of you.Since she passed, I often reflect on our relationship right from 27 Amawbia street, Uwani Enugu to National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism, WTC compound, Enugu where we worked and later to Leghorn Road where I spent my holidays. Echoes of our laughter, midnight gists with sumptuous meals are still fresh in my memory. Osinigwe, you were a mentor,a mother and a good friend. It would be difficult to easily forget you. Your legacy lives on. The pain would have been bearable if I had seen you in your last days or able to attend your funeral physically. But in everythig I glorify the Lord. Osinigwe, I wish your soul a peaceful repose and pray that God Almighty gives us the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss. Adieu Osinigwe Adieu Adagu Jee nke oma.

TRIBUTE TO MY FRIEND VIC.        ——————————————— After the initial shock of your sudden demise , my thoughts turned toward the challenge of comforting Uche, Obii and Gordy.                      My family and I extend our heart felt condolences to your entire family.             My dear VIC. , you were one of the people who made my earlier years in England ( early 1960’s) to be stress- free and very happy. Thank you for being my best friend over the years.               I learnt a lot from you— cooking in particular ( I was hopeless in this) you were the best cook I knew. You showed me how to tie our Nigerian raper , how to care for a new born baby- you were a source of comfort to me when I lost my husband very early in my marriage. Your words of wisdom , guidance, and when required , stern caution meant more to me than you even realised. I could go on and on and on .Hmmmmm- you were like a big sister to me and I can never forget you. Yes, you were there for me through good times and not so good. We shared many happy memories with each other and each others families and you were a wonderful God mother to my first daughter Sarah.           I was blessed to have you as a friend and I am eternally grateful .                    Adieu my friend !! Always remember me and please do not forget to be my guardian Angel.                        Maureen Okwu.

A GREAT GEM HAS GONE HOME A great lady of Substance! Should I call you my wife, mother, exemplary mentor, or great lady? Mama, I know you as a woman with an enduring spirit who worked tirelessly for your family and loved ones. Your stamina was unimaginable. I witnessed you staying awake late at night, marking examination papers, baking different things, sewing clothes for family, extended family members, London trips or weddings, and when I would wake up in the morning I would see you already awake, which made me wonder if you ever slept. You were a woman with great strength and you were so generous. You touched the lives of many members of Umu Ezeanyanaso and Umu Ezeisi in giving, especially the women you always gifted with the much-adored Hollandis Abada.  Among the Nri daughters, you stood as tall as your name depicts, an Adagu, the daughter of a lion who was a lioness. Mama, you taught me lots of life lessons while holidaying with you. You were part of the team that encouraged my higher education that programmed my life’s career path. You were there as a mother when I gave birth to my daughter, preparing delicious food for me and taking care of the baby while I got the much-needed rest and sleep. Above all, your faith in God was unquenchable. You rarely missed regular and morning masses where you went to appreciate your maker joyfully. Mama, your demise is painful to me. I made a trip to the UK with my daughter to help care for you but couldn’t get to you before you passed on. However, I am consoled with the time I spent with you when I visited you in London in 2019, and all the long conversations I had with you. Mama, I will forever miss you. Rest in peace.  Adieu to a great wife, an elegant Nri daughter, and an “Adagu”. Until we meet again and part no more.

Victoria Anaradoh (aka) ‘Osinigwe’ Goes Home In the Igbo language, ‘Osinigwe’ means “From heaven”. It was the most beautiful masquerade dance in Igboland. Many people know Vicky, the lady whom we are mourning today, by this name. ‘Osinigwe’ is a befitting name for Vicky, who is beautiful inside and out. That name summarises my friend Victoria. Where can I start to write about this honest, hardworking , kind-hearted, reliable and gentle lady? Vicky was a qualified convent-trained teacher in Nigeria before she came to Britain. She studied hotel and catering management she rose to Junior Superintendent to Catering Manager in School Meals Service. It was not easy then.  Vicky was also a sought-after dressmaker, a Counsellor, visiting, helping people and ever ready to solve their problems. She was intelligent and innovative. She taught and fought for the establishment of an Igbo school in this country. She was a fighter for whatever she believed in. Vicky, was a- woman-in-a-million. Her memories will always remain in my heart. I remember when the family would come visiting my family and I. Her beautiful girls running around with my children. Vicky would let go of an outfit she made for you only if it was a perfect fit. She would visit you bringing presents; cakes etc. If you visited her, she would always give you something to take home. She would not take “no” for an answer! Vicky would make you accept her gift as evidence that you visited her. My heartfelt thanks go to her caring, lovely daughters, who did their best to prolong her life when ill health came. I especially thank Oby, whom I met when I last visited Vicky in the company of my son, Okwii. Vicky, Osinigwe, loved God and served God. May God reward you for your goodness. May the angels welcome you in Paradise. May God grant your peaceful soul eternal rest in heaven.  Adieu Osinigwe! Adieu Vicky! Adieu my friend! ~ Anne Sebastian Eke ~

Remembering Aunty Vicky When Obii and I became classmates in 1976, it was the beginning of a long family-friendship connection which saw us do so many things together both in primary and secondary school. Cousins-in-law, we called ourselves, because of shared family links. I must’ve written about Obii in many “My best friend” essays at Ekulu Primary School and Federal Government College, Enugu.  I recall fondly that to visit the Anaradoh home was to enjoy a sure serving of delightful treats, many unknown to me by name, but very kind to the palate. I envied Obii her trendy grown-up clothing, made or purchased by her Mum, and totally wished I had a cool big sis like Uche. Whenever she returned from London on one of many family holidays, I was more concerned about seeing Obii’s latest fashion and “grown-upy” things than about what she may have brought for me, although she always remembered me. I guess she had no choice there – I was always around ….. Both before and after parties held at 27 Amawbia Street (I’m sure that’s the address – how could I ever forget) my feelings simply shouted: “Aunty Vicky rocks! Period.”  Mama Obii was the real deal, and we would all echo this as we returned to our home in Queen’s School Enugu staff quarters, all well-fed and chuffed. As tends to happen, we grow up learning more about the lives of our parents and their friends – the people who shape our lives, who form part of the cocoon, the nest, the roof, the various coverings that shelter us long enough for us to grow and take wing. Aunty Vicky was certainly part of that structure for my siblings (Obi, Anuli, Chichi) and I. My Mum Cecilia found in her a stabilising force for their shared relationships and from that vantage point, Aunty Vicky was to our family a wise, discreet and stoic pillar, as she was to many. So, as we come to terms with her transition from this earth, we can remember Aunty Vicky for her unmatched cuisine and creative fashion, but even more compellingly for her humaneness, faith, perseverance and love. May Uche and Obii, and all who now grieve, be comforted to remember that “Now abides these three: faith, hope and love, but the greatest of these is love” (1 Cor 13:13) May Aunty Vicky enter into her rest and may the love of God keep our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Amen. With love and prayers, Ada (on behalf of the BIC and Cecilia Okoye Family of Nawfia, Anambra State)

Mrs Veronica Efunshile9 Feb 2025

Victoria and I have been sisters in Christ since 1980. In 2007 Victoria asked if I would become her company secretary and join her in The Igbo and Tutorial School. I was the secretary and Victoria was very passionate Teacher about educating children on how to speak the igbo language. For many years we both participated and were also in the Legion of Mary at the Shrine of Our Lady of Willesden in Harlesden NW10. We became extremely close and shared lots of experiences together and was very proud of her daughters . When Victoria became unwell I would ways call and read the holy rosary to uplift her spirits. I miss her dearly and may her soul rest in perfect peace. Farewell my sister Mrs Veronica Efunshile.

Dear ‘Mrs Anaradoh’.  ‘Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal’. You have been to me, your ‘P’, the perfect friend, mother in law, and guide I could ever have wished for. You were very genuine, caring, and an amazing role model. You were an incredibly insightful person and you were a risk taker and very skilled in so many things. Incredibly industrious.  You stood strong and proud , and forged your unique path through life.  I am proud and honoured to have known you.  I am proud and honoured to care for your daughter , to carry on that charge which you gave me.  I still cannot believe that you have gone. I still set the table for you and include you in portions for food whenever I am in London. I believe that you will always be with us in spirit and that is what I feel so strongly.  You were such a strong presence and I still hear your voice in my head. A gem of a woman and a fantastic mother in law to me , I have found your passing very difficult. Safe journey, rest well in heaven. No more pain.  Thank you for everything.  Peter.

Aunty was a beacon of love, kindness, and strength. Her presence brought warmth , and her heart was always open to anyone in need. I remember when I first met her in Nigeria and we spoke like she had known me for ever. She was the heart of her family, a guiding light who nurtured, protected, and uplifted those she loved. Her wisdom and strength inspired many, and her laughter could brighten even the darkest days. I remember when I would call Oby on the phone and she would answer in the most lovely manner before passing the phone to Oby Though she is no longer with us, her love and spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched. Her legacy is not only in the memories we cherish but in the values she instilled in her children, Uche and Oby . The kindness she showed to others, and the love she shared so freely. As we mourn her passing, let us also celebrate the beautiful life she lived. Let us carry forward the love and compassion she so effortlessly shared with the world.   Uche and Oby, may you find comfort in knowing that she is at peace, watching over you with a heart full of love. Rest in peace, Aunty. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

Aunty Vicky, the news of your passing came as a big shock to me. I fondly remember your warm, beautiful smile that always welcomed me whenever I visited your home in Enugu. You were such a wonderful host, very kind and generous. Obii and I have been close friends and your love for Obii was also extended to me. My close friendship with Obii brought you and my mum together in friendship too. My mum would later visit you during her summer vacation in London and she would recount the wonderful time she spent with you. Thank you Aunty for being such a blessing. Your memory will live forever. May you continue to rest peacefully with God. Obii and Uche, accept my heartfelt condolences. May God comfort you and give you peace.
