About Yit Fah's Life

  1. Mr Wong Yit Fah was born in Sarawak in 1938 and had 3 sisters and a brother. When he was 6 years old, his mother arranged for him to be baptised in the Christian church. As an adult, he moved to Brunei and worked for Shell as an air conditioning specialist. He was known as Big Wong due to his strong physique and his love of sports. His motorbike was his passion.

In 1961 he came to the UK and just 2 months after he arrived, saw a High Street advertisement with the words “Join the army to see the world”.

He enlisted and gave the army six years of his life stationed in West Germany. After he left, he was employed by the General Post Office which is now known as British Telecom and remained there until his retirement in 1992.

Yit Fah married Tong Lan in May 1975 in Kingston and they made Surrey their home. He was a great cook and they often threw big dinner parties in their home.

Together with his wife, he attended Epsom Methodist church although he himself was not a regular churchgoer. Over the past years several friends have been sharing the Gospel with him. On 24th September this year he made the decision to put his faith in the Lord and accepted Jesus Christ as his saviour. On 13th October 2021, Yit Fah was baptised (confirmed) by Rev Ung Soon Nguang, 5 weeks before he passed into His Heavenly Father’s arms.
