About Weaste Cemetery
Weaste Cemetery is Salford's oldest municipal burial ground, having opened in 1857 on Cemetery Road in Weaste. Covering 16 hectares (approximately 40 acres), it is listed Grade II on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens, recognising its outstanding Victorian landscape. Six monuments within the cemetery are individually Grade II listed. A heritage trail was opened in 2004. The cemetery contains 373 Commonwealth war graves and is the resting place of Sir Charles Hallé, founder of the Hallé Orchestra, and Joseph Brotherton, Salford's first Member of Parliament. The cemetery is essentially full to new plots; interments are accepted only into existing or family graves.
Grave leases are provided from 75 years, with extensions usually available from the cemetery.
Anyone can be buried at Weaste Cemetery, but grave prices depend on residency. Lower resident rates typically apply to families living in Salford, with higher fees for non-residents. Residency rules are complex so please check with your funeral arranger.
