About Agecroft Cemetery
Agecroft Cemetery and Crematorium is the principal bereavement facility for Salford City Council, opened on 2 July 1903 as the Salford Northern Cemetery. Covering 45 acres in the Irwell Valley in Pendlebury, the cemetery was designed by the firm Sharp & Foster and contains over 58,000 interments and over 74,000 cremations since 1957. The site houses 164 Commonwealth war graves, a Lancaster bomber memorial (aircraft PB304), and a dedicated Muslim burial section. Salford's crematorium has been operating from the former Nonconformist chapel since 1957. Special memorial plots (3A and 12) permit taller headstones and full-length kerbs. The adjacent Agecroft Jewish Cemetery is administered separately by the North Manchester Jewish Cemeteries Trust. Salford holds the ICCM Charter for the Bereaved Gold Standard.
Grave leases are provided from 75 years, with extensions usually available from the cemetery.
