About Gorton Cemetery
Gorton Cemetery opened in 1900 and covers 13 hectares in the Gorton district of Manchester, containing over 80,000 burials across more than 18,000 graves. The original chapels were demolished in 2009 and replaced with Remembrance Gardens. The cemetery is crossed by the historic Nico Ditch, an Anglo-Saxon boundary earthwork of significant archaeological interest. The site holds 69 First World War and 88 Second World War burials and retains a Green Flag Award. New burial space is estimated to last approximately 15 more years.
Grave leases are provided from 99 years, with extensions usually available from the cemetery.
