We're Available 24/7Stockport Cemetery is the borough's oldest and principal burial ground, having opened in 1838 on Buxton Road in Heaviley. The site is home to the Stockport Crematorium, which opened in 1934, making it one of the older crematoria in Greater Manchester. The Bereavement Services headquarters for the borough is located here. Two chapels are in operation: the Cypress Chapel (built 1934) and the more modern Rowan Chapel (built 2005), each accommodating approximately 90 mourners with 45-minute service slots. The cemetery contains two Grade II listed memorials. No new full burial plots are available; the site accepts only the re-opening of existing family graves.
Grave leases are provided from 75 years, with extensions usually available from the cemetery.
Anyone can be buried at Stockport Cemetery, but grave prices depend on residency. Lower resident rates typically apply to families living in Stockport, with higher fees for non-residents. Residency rules are complex so please check with your funeral arranger.
